The Best Snowboard and Ski Helmets for Under $300

Last Updated: January 10, 2022 By Craig

We review a few of our favorite snow helmets for 300 dollars or less

The best snow helmet for under $300 brings us into a nice price-range that gives us not only a lot of flexibility, but many choices on top of it as well. Our top snowboard ski helmets guide showed us there’s quite a mixture of quality out there when it comes to certain price-points. In this particular under $300 finish line however, most aren’t going to go over this so we’re able to get the best of the best. The actual helmet for you however will depend on a few needs, and we want you to be careful when you buy, especially with this much money at stake. Certain “technology” may jack up a price significantly, so we need to weed out the winners from the rest. Let’s get started.

Picking the best snow helmet under $300

First and foremost, this is quite the price-range we have here. We state this because there’s a big difference between a snow helmet at half of this price vs. a helmet right at $300. Your available and exact budget will determine which direction you head, however we did choose a few from each hundred-dollar mark below. You can always check out our other budget-friendly helmet guides, which we’ll link you below just in case.

  • Snow helmets under $100
  • Snow helmets under $200

After determining your exact budget, let’s talk “features”. Since these are higher-end, you’re going to get what you pay for. We’re talking extra protection mechanisms, fitting systems, venting systems, special goggle locks and more. Try to keep in mind what’s important to you. We’ll list the highlights of each, however before we start, here are our recommendations.

  • Extra protection systems built-in to the helmet will never be “overboard” — you can never have too much protection. Look for mechanisms such as MIPS and specialized constructions (hybrid shells).
  • Venting is a plus, but not necessarily a must. Some helmets have overkill “venting systems” and “technology” that really jacks up the price. To us, most helmets have feasible venting and doesn’t call for extra money on top of it all. Especially in this price range. Instead, put that towards safety.
  • Look into how the interior is built. Nothing is worse than a helmet that seems comfortable at first only to bring us some itchy or even pain after a few hours of riding. We recommend some type of fleece or plush.
  • Special fit systems are not necessarily a must but in our opinion worth it, considering sometimes we wear beanies or hats under our helmet and will need to adjust the overall feel. 360 fit systems are in right now.
  • Everything else, such as speak compatibility, goggle locks, adjustable vents and more are extras. It’s up to you.

Don’t forget about “gender specific” helmets. Now we in no way agree with this label. However, some snow helmets for women fit a bit smaller since “typically” ladies heads aren’t as big (figuratively and literally!) as men’s. However, many of these are unisex and won’t matter — just use the brand’s sizing chart and you’ll be completely fine.
